Despite being known as the Sunshine State, Florida currently produces a mere 6% of its electricity needs from renewable sources such as solar. While that may not seem like much, Florida ranks fourth among all 50 states in solar and renewable energy production. Ryan details that school construction can move toward net zero by taking advantage of renewable energy incentives in an economically viable way.

The Brightline station will serve as a blueprint for other states, revolutionizing travel, delivering the first high-speed train directly connected to an airport, linking millions, and regionalizing the state.
October 26, 2023 - Leah Zeisler’s example of persistence is an inspiration to us. Leah first joined Matern nearly a decade ago, and in 2022 she stepped up to lead our firm’s electrical design department, overseeing Matern’s work in electrical design. Leah earned her PE and has since focused her energies on electrical, lighting, and educational work for Matern. In fact, one of her favorite feelings is driving past a building she helped design, taking satisfaction in knowing she has contributed to her community’s growth.

August 17, 2023 - In an article published in Business Focus Magazine, Matern Professional Engineering Founder and CEO Douglas P. Matern was profiled for his firm’s signature work at Orlando International Airport (MCO). Matern’s work for the airport commenced decades ago when he was part of a team contracted to construct a new airport for the busy Florida city. The firm’s work at MCO has continued, entailing installing the airport’s Automated People Mover (APM) facility, as well as the Brightline high-speed rail.

The company, founded in 1984, has since grown to employ over 60 engineers and other personnel dedicated to client services. “As we commemorate our 40th anniversary, we reflect on the remarkable journey that has defined us. March 21, 2024 - An article published in Engineering News-Record’s “Best of the Best” feature highlighted Matern Professional Engineering’s work at the Orlando International Airport Brightline Train Station at Terminal C. The three-story station represents the first high-speed train directly connected to an airport in Florida.
June 15, 2023 - Uplifting and giving back to the local community is a core value at Matern Professional Engineering. And creating a safe and supported environment starts with ensuring access to healthcare. Accordingly, this year we partnered with One Blood and invited the Big Red Bus to come to our inaugural blood drive in honor of World Blood Donor Day on June 14. This event was meant to encourage our team—and the surrounding community—to take 45 minutes out of their day for a meaningful cause.
