Best Airport/Transit - Orlando International Airport Terminal, Published in Engineering News-Record’s “Best of the Best” feature

Brightline_4.23_4742_webMarch 21, 2024 - An article published in Engineering News-Record’s “Best of the Best” feature highlighted Matern Professional Engineering’s work at the Orlando International Airport Brightline Train Station at Terminal C. The three-story station represents the first high-speed train directly connected to an airport in Florida.

“Brightline’s Orlando station is an ambitious and exciting project that challenged our team to think creatively and apply unique and complex engineering techniques in every phase,” said Brad Pascarella, PE, Commercial Department Head and Senior Project Manager at Matern Professional Engineering.

The Terminal C expansion features such modern technology as 100 percent facial recognition “e-gates,” automated screening lines, and a trackable baggage system. The terminal’s design achieves over a 25 percent reduction in energy costs compared to the latest ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standard. The terminal is one of the first LEED v4-certified airport campuses in the United States.

“Incorporating new engineering systems into Orlando International Airport’s existing infrastructure was a demanding but rewarding experience,” said Pascarella.
