Matern Celebrates Employees at Annual Picnic
August 10, 2023 - At Matern, we put people first—and we have for 40 years! Accordingly, we look forward to celebrating our team’s hard work at our annual company picnic, on August 19 at Wekiva Island. This natural springs paradise, located just north of Orlando, offers fun activities for the entire family, including paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, and horseshoes. A catered meal will be provided for Matern’s employees and their families.
We feel that such fellowship is even more important, especially in the wake of the pandemic. Coming together at Wekiva Island will unite the entire Matern family at one event. Such fellowship also helps us unwind as we embark on four decades in the engineering business. The festivities carry on an annual tradition that company founder Doug Matern has continued for many years.
“We work hard so we play hard,” said Doug Matern, PE, Founder & CEO of Matern. “This is a time to catch up, see each other’s kids grow up, have fun—and not talk about work.”
The benefits of company-wide picnics for team-building and morale-boosting are many. Small Business Trends notes that in addition to the easygoing atmosphere of the company picnic, games and activities undertaken there “foster team building and help you meet your company’s goals.” This sense of common purpose is crucial not only to a successful out-of-office event but also to the collective mission of the company itself.
“It is so important for us to continue gathering every summer, both for morale and to show our appreciation for our employees,” said Doug. “For 40 years, our people have been our single greatest asset. We simply would not be where we are today without our outstanding team.”
He started Matern’s annual company picnic years ago to recognize the hard work and success of the entire organization. Doug has been an engineer for nearly a half-century, and his firm is proud of its legacy throughout Florida, most notably in its work on 5 million square feet of engineering marvels at the Orlando International Airport.
Not many companies make it 40 years, so a celebration is definitely in order. “It’s great to be able to celebrate with our incredible team,” Mr. Matern said. “We aim to carry on this tradition for decades to come as we continue to celebrate our people, our company’s success, and our continued drive to innovate and deliver.”
