September 16, 2023 - In an article published in Spaces4Learning, Ryan Strandquest LEED AP, President of Matern Professional Engineering, discusses the idea of approaching net zero in schools, specifically through analyzing the use of renewable energy. Despite being known as the Sunshine State, Florida currently produces a mere 6% of its electricity needs from renewable sources such as solar. While that may not seem like much, Florida ranks fourth among all 50 states in solar and renewable energy production. Ryan details that school construction can move toward net zero by taking advantage of renewable energy incentives in an economically viable way.

August 17, 2023 - In an article published in Business Focus Magazine, Matern Professional Engineering Founder and CEO Douglas P. Matern was profiled for his firm’s signature work at Orlando International Airport (MCO). Matern’s work for the airport commenced decades ago when he was part of a team contracted to construct a new airport for the busy Florida city. The firm’s work at MCO has continued, entailing installing the airport’s Automated People Mover (APM) facility, as well as the Brightline high-speed rail.

March 21, 2024 - An article published in Engineering News-Record’s “Best of the Best” feature highlighted Matern Professional Engineering’s work at the Orlando International Airport Brightline Train Station at Terminal C. The three-story station represents the first high-speed train directly connected to an airport in Florida.
October 11, 2023 - The saying “time flies when you’re having fun!” rings true for Ashley Goldberg, who joined the company over a decade ago as a project setup/CAD coordinator. Ashley began working with Doug Matern and Ryan Strandquest on various projects and her interest in mechanical engineering grew, so she enrolled at the University of Alabama, where she received her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Over the years, Ashley rose through the ranks from Mechanical Engineer to Sr. Project Manager. Today, she oversees Matern’s entire Mechanical Engineering Department for Education.
