Matern’s work for the airport commenced decades ago when he was part of a team contracted to construct a new airport for the busy Florida city. The firm’s work at MCO has continued, entailing installing the airport’s Automated People Mover (APM) facility, as well as the Brightline high-speed rail.

The three-story station represents the first high-speed train directly connected to an airport in Florida. 

September 6, 2023 - An article published in Engineering News-Record announced that Matern Professional Engineering has completed work on the Orlando International Airport’s Brightline station, allowing passengers on the high-speed rail network to directly access the airport. Millions of passengers will use this rail-air travel connection at the rapidly growing MCO airport. Matern’s work entailed integrating the rail network directly into the airport’s infrastructure in cooperation with Borrelli + Partners.
