Matern Collaborates with One Blood to Support Local Community
June 15, 2023 - Uplifting and giving back to the local community is a core value at Matern Professional Engineering. And creating a safe and supported environment starts with ensuring access to healthcare. Accordingly, this year we partnered with One Blood and invited the Big Red Bus to come to our inaugural blood drive in honor of World Blood Donor Day on June 14. This event was meant to encourage our team—and the surrounding community—to take 45 minutes out of their day for a meaningful cause.
When we give, those in need live.
“Our team values community outreach and making positive impacts in the MEP industry and our community as a whole. We are proud to collaborate with One Blood and provide the opportunity to our team and local residents to donate blood,” said XX. “Seven years ago, our community came together to donate blood in the aftermath of the Pulse nightclub tragedy. We recognize that donating blood helped save the lives of people injured at Pulse. Donating blood is imperative for the wellness of those injured or suffering from an illness.”
The blood drive was open to the public as well, and many local businesses came out to support the cause. Seven Matern employees donated blood. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Big Red Bus was crowded with good-hearted people eager to learn more about the One Blood organization and celebrate World Blood Donor Day in a meaningful way. Those who donated blood received a $20 Amazon gift card, a reusable water bottle, and a wellness checkup, which included blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count, and cholesterol screening. Cookies and juice were distributed to all those who donated.
One in three people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives. By collaborating with causes such as One Blood, we ensure that those at risk receive the care they need. More than 1 million people are diagnosed with cancer each year and need a blood transfusion; just one donation can help save three lives.
Uplifting the local community has been a priority for Matern since its inception. We believe our partnership with One Blood will help us achieve our goal of community support and the promotion of accessible healthcare.
“We look forward to continue collaborating with One Blood in the future, and making impacting change to the health of our community,” added Erica Shay.
